One Of A Kind

The One of a Kind Show and Sale is a kind of multi-city pop-up Christmas market featuring handmade artisan products. I visited their space in New York last week, and discovered inspiring work from artists like John Christopher Borrero (above, 'The Cicada Queen'). It was located in midtown, at 34th and 5th avenue, in the heart of the fast-paced shopping district.

One of a Kind was in NYC for its second year - its other locations are Toronto, Chicago and Vancouver, where it has been an annual event for many many years.

'Flying Machine', another intriguing piece of found object art by John Borrero

They do a good job of promoting the hands behind the handcrafting. On their show websites, they feature extensive profiles of the designers, and some are specially featured with interviews and studio photographs. Apart from benefiting the designers, this kind of promotion also drums up support for the craft industry among the shopping public.

If you're in one if the cities, I recommend either shopping or showing at the One of a Kind.

Puff&Flock Shop

The sign went up, the plinths went out, the wonderful products got put on display, and the shop opened. And four days later, it all came down! That's LDF for you: short but sweet. It was months in the making and over in a heartbeat.

For those of you who couldn't make it, our shop was designed along the theme of "parlour meets warehouse, future meets past". The Bargehouse's peeling walls and exposed brick made the perfect setting for the atmosphere.

And some of the products we were proud to carry:

Teacups by Kedo and Tea Set by Rondo

T-Shirt by Grit Hartung and Jewellery by April 23

Unique Sound Poster by Grit Hartung and Mushroom Hooks by Masako Sato

Crochet Eyeballs by Monstify

The Smths Shop

You know, in some TV series there are sometimes "spin offs" being born from one of the character's story...

Well at Puff & Flock I am getting my own spin off, it seems : The Smths Lab, that I started this year with Matteo Oliverio, a brilliant toy designer and person. Both having a passion for playful things, we launched in Milan Design week last April showcasing our new collection of soft toys, textiles, toy-jewels, and a selection of vintage toys. This Studio works in the field of “play and learn” by designing contemporary creations and using characters as a means of empathetic communication with the user. The Smths’ projects range from industrial design to public art and academic research, and is directed to people of all ages, from children to adults who recognize in the play activity a cultural and artistic value.

After some months of hard work, we are happy to present you the Smths Shop !
Inside the online shop you will find 24 brand new products designed and produced by us + a vintage toys page for those of you who can't resist the old school flavor.

Long life to the Smths :)
Spread the word to the world !
