Sri Threads
While in Brooklyn, we paid a visit to Stephen Szczepanek's gallery and shop. It's called Sri Threads, and it specialises in 19th/20th century Japanese and Indian textiles.
From the Sri website: Sri is a textile gallery specializing in antique Japanese folk textiles, highlighting the indigo-dyed cotton utilitarian fabrics and boro--or patched and mended--textiles of old Japan.
Stephen's knowledge of the elabourate dyeing processes used to create pattern was fascinating. He writes about textiles on his blog (http://threads.srithreads.com/) and is a contributor to Selvedge magazine.
