First up is Monstify by Ayda Anlagan, a sell out at the Puff & Flock shop at DesignersBlock in Milan, April 2010!




Monstify is a range of hand made crochet eyeballs designed to instantly turn any everyday object into a monster! Made to order in any color or available to pick up at the Puff & Flock shop in a couple of weeks, these eyes will bring inanimate objects to life and give them expression. The eyes are interchangeable so you can mix and match any color combination you choose. Fitted with a broach pin, Monstify eyes are a great gift for children and fun loving adults alike.

Ayda Anlagan is a London based industrial designer who enjoys incorporating humour in her products. After graduating from Middle East Technical University in Turkey she moved to London and completed her MA in Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. She came up with the concept for Monstify while indulging in her hobby of making monster finger puppets for her friends and their children as gifts.

After successfully exhibiting at Milan she decided to turn it into a business and is currently working towards using Monstify as a means to establishing a fair trade product range that will be manufactured by Indian women in the crafts. Since her graduation Ayda has won a Royal Society of the Arts Award, started up a small business and has been working on socially responsive projects with organizations such as Age Concern, Hackney and The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Textile traditions with the embeded canvas hidden under little flaps that you are invited to embroid to make this sofa all yours!


A cats entertainment area has even been provided. So your favourite pet doesn't damage your favourite sofa.


The "Pocket coin" in which you can wipe the bits of cookies to feed the gold fish in the attached tank. And you will never lose the coins which drop from your pockets when you seat because they are caught by the other pockets!

Puff & Flock are showing at Interiors Birmingham, 24th - 27th January on the DesignersBlock stand for the second year running. This year we were asked to collaborate and have created exciting partnerships with Ercol, Hendzel and Hunt, Toray and the PoCheung Steel company in China.

Imagine combing the cushions’ silky hair into the most daring hairstyles, or even your favourite scents embedded in little patches on the back cushion. ‘Sofa So Good’ by Amelie Labarthe and Elisabeth Buecher (Puff & Flock) in association with Ercol is here to keep you warm and entertained through cold winters and beyond. ‘Sofa So Good’ is your treasure chest, let it be yours and no one else’s.

Silvergate bench by Jenny Leary

Jenny Leary (Puff & Flock) reshapes steel offcuts from the PoCheung Steel factory in Hong Kong. They become decorative panels in the Ercol chair backrest, taking design inspiration from wrought iron garden gates. The addition of magnetic strips to the chair allow these steel panels to be removable.

Magical glow textiles by Kathy Schicker

Creating a magical dark space in collaboration with Ercol and sponsored by ‘Toray’ Europe limited, Kathy Schicker (Puff & Flock) has crafted a number of beautiful unique handmade glow in the dark birds. These are hidden in a magical landscape printed on to high tech fabric and interwoven with Ercol furniture.


Carbon Copy by Jan Hendzel and Oscar Hunt of Hendzel and Hunt and Jenny Leary and Melissa French.

Makers and designers Jan Hendzel and Oscar Hunt (Hendzel and Hunt) test their technical might in partnership with Jenny Leary and Melissa French (Puff & Flock) to produce a textile copy of the iconic Ercol Butterfly chair. Combining carbon fibre and one of Ercol’s bestselling fabrics, this chair is lightweight yet rigid creating an intriguing curiosity.

Puff and Flock at London Design Festival

We are pleased to announce that future textile collective Puff & Flock will be exhibiting at Designersblock for this years London Design Festival. Puff & Flock are also part of the Mix magazine seminar program at 100% Design, both taking place at Earls Court, 24th - 27th September.

The Festival Experience

Salone del Mobile 2009 is officially over: we once again find ourselves in a tragically pizza-deprived part of the world. Back in London, sans gelato (though it's too cold here today to imagine wanting some anyway), it's time to reflect on the trip.

What’s it like to exhibit at the Milan Furniture Fair? Very different from the experience as a visitor.

Somehow, I expected to have the energy to balance showing and seeing, but not much of the latter ever happened. It was impossible to mission around Milan after the exhausting installation. Even though, thanks to being part of a collective, we could break our stand-tending duty into shifts, I used most of my free time to rest.

The only other exhibit I saw, and it was a good thing: Senseware at the Trienalle


Also enjoyed lattes. Also enjoyed pizza. Also nursed hangovers. Also celebrated Amelie’s birthday. Also recovered from a post-Mexico trip flu.


Mmmmm....a nice delicious Italian tea for Melissa.


You would be just as excited about a pizza of this scale.

Quite funky indeed....

Luckily, the guilt of having missed out on this annual concentration of design creations is offset. A flourishing of small-scale media coverage brought instant reviews of the shows to the surface. There were twitterers, bloggers, and on-site daily newspapers (The British Council provided The Incidental. Another, more interesting publication was KithKin's Working Title.)

Clare Acheson showed us that the secret to successful design writing is snacking on lettuce.


Now, from the uninterrupted dismal calm of a cold cloudy London day, I can finally “return” to last week’s Salone as a visitor. The Working Title published six issues – one per night – from their office in the designersblock compound. We didn’t have to make much effort to obtain a daily copy, as this was also where we were located, so I now sit here reading through my collection of them.

The style of this publication is perfectly suited to reflect the Milan experience. Written by members of the collective KithKin, the diverse opinions portray a kaleidoscopic approach. The group didn’t have a specific agenda with the paper, so it ends up echoing the subjective experiences of individuals. Some articles offer in-depth descriptions, some trail off into amusing anecdotes. It’s a paper that wanders. And wandering is the only real way to stumble upon the best of Milan.
These temporary publications circulating through the city created a stronger sense of community, similar to the effect of newspapers like The Piss Clear in Black Rock City (Burning Man). It would be amazing to have that sense 'round the year in London. Working Title: please start publishing here and rid us of the Free London Lite!!!!!

but we like to show the behind the scenes. We love this messy nerve breaking never ending torture of show building up. We might be getting more and more used to it !
